April 2026: Retatrutide Phase 3 watch + STEP-HFpEF extension data
March → April 2026 brief: Eli Lilly Q1 earnings confirms TRIUMPH-1 on-track; STEP-HFpEF extension reports durable KCCQ benefit.
Retatrutide Phase 3 watch
Eli Lilly's Q1 2026 earnings call confirmed that the retatrutide TRIUMPH-1 trial in obesity remains within its expected H1 2026 read-out window. Investors heard nothing beyond reaffirmed guidance — no enrolment delay, no protocol amendment, no early stop. Given the Phase 2 NEJM 2023 data showed ~24% mean weight reduction at the 12 mg dose over 48 weeks, the Phase 3 read becomes the single most-watched data event of the year for the metabolic peptide field.
STEP-HFpEF extension data
The American College of Cardiology meeting in early April featured updated STEP-HFpEF data extending the original 52-week trial to 76 weeks. The KCCQ clinical-summary-score gain (originally +7.8 points at 52 weeks) attenuated only modestly to +6.4 points at 76 weeks — supporting durable benefit rather than the transient response some had hypothesised. 6-minute walk distance gain was sustained at +20 metres above placebo. The implication for heart-failure research is that incretin-mediated HFpEF benefit is not a short-term phenomenon driven solely by acute weight loss.
UK MHRA and supply
UK supply situation continues to normalise. The earlier Ozempic / Wegovy constraints (2022-2024 era) have not reappeared. Mounjaro supply for both indications remains stable through licensed UK pharmacies. No new MHRA Drug Safety Updates touched the class this month.
